2015 Holiday Parade Marshal & Theme Announced

Santa_in_Parade_2014The San Luis Obispo Downtown Association and its Promotions Committee is excited to announce the 2015 Holiday Parade Theme and Parade Marshal.  As the annual event embarks on a milestone 40th year, the committee has selected this year’s theme to be:  There’s No Place Like SLO.  The theme was inspired by the traditional 40th anniversary gift of “Ruby” and Dorothy’s ruby red slippers she wore in the classic film Wizard of Oz.

The annual Holiday Parade will be held on Friday, December 4 at 7 PM and is one of the area’s largest holiday events showcasing entries ranging from clubs, organizations, businesses, churches, dance troupes and much more, entertaining thousands of attendees from around the county and beyond.

Pierre Rademaker will be leading our procession through the streets of Downtown as the Parade Marshal. Rademaker is the Founder and Creative Director of Pierre Rademaker Design.  Parade marshals are chosen based on the following criteria: demonstrated participation in efforts to improve Downtown, contributions to the community, a Downtown presence and a positive presence in general. Rademaker moved to San Luis Obispo in 1972 to establish the graphic design program at Cal Poly, and he founded his design office in 1980. Rademaker, has sat on the Downtown Association Board of Directors for multiple terms, served as the Downtown Association Board of Directors Chair, is an active member in other local service organizations, advocates politically for a better all around San Luis Obispo. His vast contributions to the visual design and feel of San Luis Obispo, particularly Downtown buildings and conceptual plans, are impossible to ignore.

Promotions Coordinator Megan Grose says, “We truly believe that SLO has something for everyone, and that there really isn’t anywhere else to spend the holidays than right here in SLO. We’re looking forward to a full lineup of stellar activities that include Santa’s House, The Classic Carousel, and Holiday Tree (all in Mission Plaza), along with a full slate of entertainment and kids’ activities.”  Holiday activities begin the Friday after Thanksgiving and runs through Christmas Eve.

If your group, club, organization or business would like to participate in the event, applications will be available on Thursday, October 1 in our office and on our website, www.DowntownSLO.com.
