Join us for the first in a series of community discussions about Downtown issues that were brought forward by our audience at the screening of the film, Urban Century America’s Return to Main Street. The Downtown Foreword will be held in the SLO Library Community Room on the evening of November 16th. Local parking and transportation experts will start the event with a panel discussion about the science and theory that drives how we travel through a downtown environment, alternatives to cars and the advances in technology that will shape the future of transit. We will complete the evening with questions and answers from the public.


Tim Bochum – Deputy Director, Transportation and Development Review, City of SLO
Mr. Bochum will present the recent Parking Utilization Study for the Downtown area. The study provides an in depth look at the current state of parking demand as well as the future projection for how the Palm Nipomo Structure will play a part in relieving some of that pressure.


Scott Lee – Parking Manager, City of SLO
Our current parking program is based on years of parking science and studies thatare all well known to Mr. Lee. He will explain best practices and the future ofparking technology.

Amy Kardel  – Business Owner, Clever Ducks
Ms. Kardel understands the demands parking and access have on running abusiness Downtown, she is the past Chair of the Downtown SLO Parking andAccess Committee .

Billy Riggs  – Assistant Professor – City & Regional Planning, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Mr. Riggs is an expert on urban planning policies with specific interest in transit, housing economic development and sustainable land use and environmental planning.

Jennifer Rice  – Transportation Planner/Engineer, City of SLO
Ms. Rice is a project manager for the Broad St. Bike Boulevard, an expert on  the SLO City bicycle Transportation Plan and is working to improve bike access citywide.

Old SLO Trolley

Trolley service is provided from both of the parking structures and at convenient locations within the Downtown core approximately every 15 minutes. The fare is 50 cents. Hours of operation are:

  • Thursdays - 5 PM to 9 PM - Year Round
  • Fridays - 5 PM to 9 PM - June-Labor Day
  • Saturday - 5 PM to 9 PM - April - October
