  • What’s Happening Around Downtown in May?

    brown_new_boothMay is here and it is going to be a busy month for us Downtown. The month kicks off with Art After Dark the first night of May to set the pace for a big run of events in the coming weeks. Downtown is looking forward to our signature events including Mother’s Day Flower Giveaway, Law Enforcement Night, Public Works Night and our beloved Downtown Brown’s Birthday! We are also excited to be rolling out with our Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics section of Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market, STEAM Alley on Garden Street. Another new addition to the market is the continuation of our Fresh Picked Concert Series on our Harvest Stage at the East end of the market.

  • Downtown Association Forms New Committee

    DTA_LOGOAre you looking for a chance to be more involved with issues that affect your Downtown business or experience?  The San Luis Obispo Downtown Association’s 2015-16 Board of Directors has a great opportunity available to business owners who want to be involved with the issues that face our Downtown.  An informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 27 for the newly formed Issues Evaluation Committee at 8:30 AM in the SLO Downtown Association conference room.

    Business owners and managers are welcome to attend to learn about the role this committee will play in our community.  This committee will be comprised of four members from the Board of Directors and eight at large Downtown Association members. The Board is striving to build a cross-sectional representation of the Downtown business mix and is looking for interested parties to submit an application for further review. The application consists of a contact information form and 250-word response about your participation with important issues.   • Gear Up for Bike Month!

    Bike-Month-2015-e1424991488600Gear up for Bike Month in May!  The campaign kicks off on Friday, May 1, with a bike-themed Art After Dark in Downtown San Luis Obispo.  There are events happening all month long including breakfasts, Bike-In Movie nights, Bike Challenge and a chance to win a new bike!     Also, the San Luis Obispo Downtown Association is partnering with SLO Regional Rideshare to sponsor a bicycle-themed window decorating contest during May. The public can vote on the best window online through the month of May in three categories: Most Creative, Most Inspiring and Most Technical. The winner will be recognized at rideshare.org, on all social media channels and at the Bike Month Blowout Party on June 4 at Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market.

Great American Main Street Award Winner

San Luis Obispo, California was awarded The Great American Main Street Award in 1999 by the National Trust For Historic Preservation. Since 1995, this esteemed award has been presented to five US Cities each year, recognizing them for their successful preservation-based downtown revivals.

Old SLO Trolley

Trolley service is provided from both of the parking structures and at convenient locations within the Downtown core approximately every 15 minutes. The fare is 50 cents. Hours of operation are:

  • Thursdays - 5 to 9 p.m. - Year Round
  • Fridays - 5 to 9 p.m. - June-Labor Day
  • Saturday - 5 to 9 p.m. - April - October
