01 Feb Old San Luis BBQ Company
Seven years ago, Old San Luis BBQ was just a small catering company and a side hobby for civil engineer turned restaurant owner Matt Pearce. Since then, he has taken his passion for cooking and turned it into a 3,000 sq. ft. restaurant complete with a brand new taproom in Downtown San Luis Obispo.
Using local businesses as suppliers and hundred year old family recipes as his guide, Pearce is able to bring the culture and cuisine of the Central Coast to Downtown San Luis Obispo for everyone to try. “The restaurant is really focused on craft food; I wanted to be able to expand my beer and wine selection to craft brewing,” Pearce shares.
Located near the corner of Nipomo and Higuera streets, Old San Luis BBQ features Angus tri-tip, pulled pork, and Linguica sandwiches that make Santa Maria BBQ accessible to tourists and locals alike. The newly remodeled restaurant features a brand new taproom with nine craft wines, two craft ciders, and 35 craft beers for customers to try on a self-serve tap system. The new taproom also features high-tables, a wall of board games, and a more social environment geared towards the young professionals in San Luis Obispo.
When it comes to Old San Luis BBQ, Pearce says that “commitment to quality and commitment to customer service” is at the heart of his business and what makes him stand out from the rest. Pearce is also committed to “serving the community that serves [them]”, which is why all Downtown employees receive a 15% discount at Old San Luis BBQ. Visit them in the heart of Downtown at 670 Higuera Street.
