San Luis Obispo Downtown Association kicked off a fresh new look, new concert series and new attractions to its Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market throughout the year. Now, the organization is rolling out even more features to improve the much-loved weekly event for local residents and guests. Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market Vision Plan includes providing free Wi-Fi, ease of market congestion and yes, you heard it– a wine and beer tasting area.

Who benefits from the Downtown SLO Vision Plan?
This document is a brief outline of the plans to grow the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market and foster a better event where vendors can better market their goods and local consumers will find the products and entertainment that they want. The Vision Plan holds the key to the future of The Market as a top quality weekly event that the surrounding community is proud to call our own. Vendors can expect to see more shoppers and shoppers can expect to see greater product offerings and more engaging activities.
What information is contained in the Downtown SLO Vision Plan?
The Vision Plan contains an updated mission statement, a new environmental policy statement, market analysis, marketing plan and growth strategy outline for the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market. Each element is unique to this particular market but may be used by any other market or organization that wishes to produce a similar event. While other organizations would view this as proprietary information, we see it as a chance to foster collaboration not competition. At the end of this document you will find a Market Goals list with checks next to completed goals and squares next to goals that are in development.
When will changes happen?
Changes have been happening since April of 2015. Since then a new concert series was initiated, new branding was marketed, technology was introduced and the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market was reinvigorated from one end of The Market to the other. In the coming months STEAM Alley will continue to grow, free public Wi-Fi will become available, beer and wine tasting will begin and more top quality entertainers will take the stage for the second season of Fresh Picked Concerts. Each step will be rolled out systematically so that we don’t overwhelm our staff and so we don’t overwhelm the public with too many great new enhancements to The Market.
