Job Description

The Downtown Ambassador position requires an energetic individual with a personable and upbeat affect and an attention to detail. The ambassador will be required interact with all people in the downtown community including but not limited to residents and guests, business owners, visitors, unhoused individuals, the mentally ill, and law enforcement/first responders The ambassador’s primary duties are patrolling the downtown, paying careful attention to Cleaning, Maintenance, Safety, and Outreach. Each category is further explained below and the duties within those categories should all be carried out in a courteous and professional manner. Additional duties include operations assistance at special events such as Farmers’ Market, Concerts in the Plaza, and Holiday Activities.

Duties

Cleaning

  • Remove litter from sidewalks, tree wells, and planters

  • Wipe down trash cans and benches

  • Clean up sidewalk messes and spills

  • Clean near bike racks and public benches

  • Dispose of abandoned/lost items

Maintenance

  • Remove stickers from public property

  • Remove graffiti and chalk marks

  • Interface with City Public Works to report damaged or tarnished items such as signs, news racks, light poles and trash cans

Safety

  • Observe and monitor the district and report any dangerous or threatening situations

  • Report violations of laws and local ordinances to proper authorities

  • Advise offenders of the infraction and provide supporting information

  • Respond to calls on the ambassador phone and analyze the situation for appropriate responses

Outreach

  • Provide wayfinding directions and recommendations 

  • Establish and maintain relationships with local business owners, shopkeepers, and bar/restaurant owners

  • Interact with the public to provide requested information

  • Assist law enforcement and social service providers by advising individuals in need of services of the resources available to them

  • Serve as an informational resource and point of contact for many people and will provide information in a courteous and professional manner at all times

Physical Demands

  • Stand/walk for prolonged period of time

  • Lift and move materials up to 50 pounds

  • Work in outdoor environment subject to weather

Compensation

The hourly rate of pay is $19/hour. 

A uniform shirt, hat, and jacket will be provided upon hire.
