Join artist Camille Hoffman in conversation with Ryan Buyco, Associate Professor of the Ethnic Studies Department at Cal Poly and moderated by Lydia Heberling, Assistant Professor of English and Indigenous Studies at Cal Poly.

Although Camille Hoffman is formally trained as a painter, she applies the respective textures and stories of found materials as though they are colors from her palette. Using materials such as medical records and mass-produced vinyl landscapes, her work and material selections transmute commercial and overly romanticized American landscapes into personally sacred and site-specific experiences. Drawing from extensive historical research, her everyday material reality, as well as meaningful exchanges with living wisdom keepers from her community, Hoffman’s installations are a spatial rethreading of misplaced personal and collective histories as well as ancestral narratives.

See and Missed transforms SLOMA’s Gray Wing into its own immersive landscape where visitors are invited to reflect on their own connection to place as they move about the space. This panel discussion will draw out the thematic layers and complexities that this exhibition presents.

Space is limited to 40 seats so please RSVP early. COVID-19 protocols will be in place per SLO County guidelines. RSVP is requiredclick here to be redirected to the Museum’s Eventbrite page.
