Shown by DNA to be a direct descendant of Sally Hemings and President Thomas Jefferson, Mary has appeared on the Oprah show, was invited to the White House, and participated in a tree planting at Monticello next to a recreated slave cabin. She has spoken for the Thomas Jefferson Foundation at Monticello, as well as for many community organizations, colleges, and genealogical groups.
