SHORT CUTS features six short films created by Cal Poly students under the mentorship of Screenwriter and Editor, Professor Randi Barros. These films — produced by teams of students from different majors — depict stories reflecting the promising filmmakers’ shared sentiments and creative visions. Engage with emotionally charged stories exploring coming of age, sexuality, racism, and unexpected truths (85 min).
SOLECITA
When a new family moves into the neighborhood, an unlikely friendship forms between two young friends, but not everyone is happy about it.
POETIC PROJECTION
Two young adults go on a date and have wildly different interpretations of how it”s going.
AUGUST
When a troubled teenage girl with dreams of travel plots to leave her home and cross state lines for the first time, a young boy in the house across the street threatens to hold her back.
ON THAT NOTE
A twenty-something loner finds an uncommon bond with his noisy, curmudgeonly neighbor.
ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS THE TRUTH
A determined young boy tries to find out the truth about Santa Claus, despite his mother”s attempts to stop him.
TWO THINGS
A middle school boy explores the awkwardness of puberty, sexuality, anger, sadness, and love.
