Downtown San Luis Obispo has been the region’s destination for making holiday memories for more than 40 years. This year, treasured family traditions will look a little bit different as Downtown SLO will reimagine the 2020 holiday season to keep everyone safe, while still staying festive.

Our 2020 Business Education Series features dynamic speakers giving you tools and inspiration to grow your business and better serve your customers. This session focuses on Hospitality and Retention.

Jay Beck has served the Downtown community at several banks, including the new American Riviera Bank at the gateway to Downtown. He will share tips for how to access capital, what banks are looking for when it comes to small business loans, and best practices for financial management and how to take all the lessons you learn during this series to the next level.

Judy Mahan is the Incubator Director for Cal Poly CIE, Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, at the HotHouse and the Director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). At the CIE HotHouse, she leads programming to assist in the business development of over a dozen currently incubating companies. On the SBDC side, Judy manages the pool of expert consultants to support their clients. With experience as a corporate and securities attorney, Judy also provides legal guidance to more than 150 company clients within the SLO County SBDC network.

Kurt Friedmann (not pictured) is a partner of Friedmann-Magee Group, and has a 25-year background in customer development, coaching, sales management, training, and customer experience management.

Business Education Series sessions are free for Downtown SLO members to attend as a member benefit.

Non-members are welcome to attend as a guest for $15 per person.

Each session runs from 8AM-10AM.

Guest Speakers: Luke Williams from Yelp San Luis Obispo & Erica Hamilton from Blackwater

Luke Williams launched the Yelp San Luis Obispo Community in 2014 as the first Community Ambassador for Yelp. He works part-time as a local employee of the popular search engine to connect locals and visitors with great local businesses. Luke hosts Yelp events each month, engaging and growing the SLO Yelp Community and helping businesses get the most out of all the free tools and features Yelp offers.

Erica Hamilton is part of the mother-daughter duo behind the local Downtown boutique, Blackwater. Learn how Erica has grown their Instagram following to over 14K, her take on influencer relationships, navigating the ups and downs of social media platforms, dealing with the haters and creating unique, carefully curated content for both their social media platforms and website. Hear her local-take on what she thinks the future holds for small business retail marketing.

Business Education Series sessions are free for Downtown SLO members to attend as a member benefit.
