Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market to Host Fire Prevention Night
Free, family-friendly, educational fun on Thursday, October 8, 2026
The community is invited to celebrate National Fire Prevention Week at the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 6–9 PM. Hosted in partnership with the City of San Luis Obispo and sponsored by Waste Connections, the event will feature fire departments from across the Central Coast showcasing their latest fire safety equipment, giving tours of their vehicles, and educating the public on fire prevention.
The night will kick off at 6 PM with a check presentation at the intersection of Higuera and Broad streets. Representatives from local fire agencies will present a check to the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, supporting its efforts to deliver prevention education and services to burn survivors, their families, and caregivers across California.

This event is free, family-friendly, and open to the public.
Participating fire agencies include the City of San Luis Obispo Fire Department, CAL FIRE, Santa Margarita Fire, Cambria Fire, Five Cities Fire Authority, and Monterey County Regional Fire District.
Fire Prevention Night coincides with the regularly scheduled Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market, taking place along five blocks of Higuera Street every Thursday starting at 6 PM. Pets are not allowed in the Farmers’ Market per CA Health and Safety Code 114259.5.
About National Fire Prevention Week
Fire Prevention Week takes place across the United States from October 4–10, 2026. This year’s campaign is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” educating the public on the everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.
