Details
Tour the history of San Luis Obispo online by looking at a story map, created by Allen Dailey. The Sanborn map of 1886 is superimposed onto today’s map. As you scroll through the historic photos and descriptions, you’ll be guided to the pinpoint locations of where the buildings were located. It’s a tour through the SLO of years long past, from the comfort of your device. You can also compare the growth between 1886 and 1891 on this comparison map, also superimposed on today’s streets.
The video-guided walking tour below is comprised of audio and visuals that will guide you to each stop and introduce you to characters from the past. The tour takes approximately one and half hours (25 Chapters) to complete and begins at the History Center’s Carnegie Library Museum at 696 Monterey Street.
