Last updated: May 14, 2026

We're celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by highlighting a few of the incredible AAPI-owned businesses in our downtown.

Nomo Domo

Co-owner Amphida Nishimira helped co-owners Charles and Thanya Pokpoonpipat open shop in 2025! Featuring traditional and “new world” Japanese flavors, enjoy ramen–including vegan and gluten free options– gyoza, sake, and more! New items are always arriving, so keep an eye out!

Shake Shake Fresh Noodle

Vivi and her husband opened Shake Shake Fresh Noodle in 2025 with a desire to bring their family recipes downtown. The restaurant’s name comes from the traditional noodle-making process which involves pulling and shaking house-made dough. Enjoy traditional Chinese noodles dishes, soups, wontons, and more!

Sweetie Cup Tea House

Mee Heng Low

Co-owner Russel Kwong manages Mee Heng Low, a restaurant nestled in downtown SLO’s historic Chinese district. Although ownership has changed since its origins began as early as the 1920s, you can enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine with an emphasis on noodle dishes! Family owned and operated, enjoy chow mein, low mein, chop suey, dumplings, and more.

201 Kitchen

Sunny Law and his wife opened the doors of 201 Kitchen in 2022! Featuring tasty Japanese cuisine, you can enjoy dishes like ramen, sushi, yakisoba, and udon. Be sure to visit them at their restaurant on Higuera St or at our Thursday night Farmers’ Market where you can enjoy onigiri, sushi push-pops, buns, and more!

Sweetie Cup Tea House

Sweetie Cup Tea House is a long-time downtown SLO favorite! Co-owner Cindy and her husband took over ownership recently and incorporated their fantastic donut business to the beloved tea shop. You can enjoy milk teas, boba, fresh donuts, and more at this family-owned-and-operated boba spot!
